Centering: The center of the nose and mouth should fall on an imaginary vertical line in the horizontal center of the image.
πΈ Quality & Printing (Crucial for Greek Applications)
No Inkjet/Laser: Photos must not be produced on household inkjet or laser printers. They must be printed on high-quality white analog photographic paper.
Resolution: Digital camera photos must be printed at a resolution of at least 1200 dpi.
Paper Surface: The paper must be smooth (not watercolor or relief-textured) and must not show "Newton Circles" (grey spots) when pressed against a glass surface.
Clarity: The image must be perfectly focused from the nose to the ears and from the jaw to the hair.
π€ Appearance & Pose
Recency: Taken within the last 6 months.
Background: Must be a uniform, light-colored background. The official preference is a specific grey (RGB 190, 190, 190).
Expression: Neutral expression with the mouth closed (no smiling).
Eyes: Must look directly at the camera, be fully open (not wide open), and clearly visible.
Hair: Must not cover the eyes, eyebrows, or any part of the face.
π Glasses & Accessories
Glasses: If worn, they must be clear and transparent with no reflections. The frames must not cover the eyes. Sunglasses and tinted/photo-chromatic lenses are strictly prohibited. It is often recommended to remove glasses to avoid rejection.
Head Coverings: Generally not allowed except for religious reasons. If used, the face from the chin to the forehead and ear-to-ear must be visible, with no shadows cast on the face.
Clothing: Civilian clothing is required. White clothing should be avoided as it may blend into the light background. Large or shiny jewelry should also be avoided.
